The Eat Local movement was inspired by an experiment conducted in 2005 by journalists Alisa Smith and J.B. MacKinnon. For a full year, they ate only foods grown and produced within 100 miles of their residences. What they found was a way of eating that benefits both the environment and local economies. Today, the local foods concept has grown into a full-blown lifestyle.
Whether you eat only foods that are produced within 100 miles of where you live or simply make an effort to increase your consumption of foods produced closer to home, you’ll be contributing to the local economy, preserving the environment and enjoying the incomparable flavors of fresh foods.
Thanks to Wisconsin’s robust agricultural industry, a bountiful variety of local foods are available, especially when it comes to the dairy industry. Milk, cheese, butter, ice cream—what delicious opportunities we have! At eatlocaldairy.com, we’ll provide you with resources, tips and recipes to help you eat and enjoy food that is produced right here in Wisconsin. |
