Eating locally is easy...and FUN!

Hey Kids!

Are you looking for ways to protect the environment? Do you want to learn more about how food gets from the farm to your table? Do you like sampling tasty treats and sharing them with your friends and family?
Then eating locally is for you!

Eating locally means eating foods from places close to where you live. Food that comes from nearby travels fewer miles and burns less fuel. Plus, local food helps support local farmers and producers.

We’re really lucky to live in Wisconsin because we have so many great-tasting local products.
Ice cream, cheese, milk, butter—Mmmmmm. Chances are, your local grocer is stocked with Wisconsin products. Why not take a closer look next time you’re in the store?

There are many ways to eat more locally produced foods. Ask your parents to help you plant a pizza garden. In a large flower pot, you can grow your own tomatoes, basil and oregano. Then, at the store, buy some Wisconsin Cheese—Mozzarella or Provolone, for example—and freshly baked bread. Bring it all together and make your own homemade pizza!
